I will come - this time for sure. I'll need to review the Texas Hold 'em rules though. I've never really played it (that I can recall) just seen it on ESPN a couple/three times. Beginner's luck??

CPL Week 4 Taken Down by Unibomber!

Wow....what a crazy crazy week 4 at the CPL!  We had 11 members this week and therefore one table.  We had the Twins vs White Sox game in the background....we had loud CPL Poker Players...and we played on and on and on before anyone was knocked out....we saw J-10 wildly succeed and we saw J-10 devastatingly lose....we had AA vs KK...and we saw the Rockets several more times during the evening....but by the end of the 3hr 11 min contest Mike "Unibomber" Bowman was the last one standing to take his first win at the CPL!

Congrats Unibomber!

CPL Honorable mention of course goes to Mike "Blind Me Down" Behr who rallied back from 200 chips to take the Second SPOT!  Now THAT is classic Blind Me Down!

Running Aces October Tourney Schedule Up - OH8 Tourney on 10/5

Running Aces has posted their October Calendar for the various poker tournaments. View it here:
http://www.runningacesharness.com/gaming/tournament_calendar_102008.pdf

And, there's some consistency - the monthly OH8 tourney is still on the first Sunday - this time Oct. 5th . Show up and you may see a couple of CPL members playing it this month. CPL Co-Director "Karaoke" Phil Fuehrer has played in the first two and is looking to get in another "practice" session before Canterbury's Fall Poker Classic Event #6 (OH Hi-Lo) on Oct. 15 (though he has a dinner he's supposed to attend which might preclude him from making the 5th). It also looks as if Jeff "Matusow" Matson is planning on being Runnig Aces - and, who knows, there may be others in attendance as well.

Matson Takes CPL Week 3!

Continuing his success during the Summer Session Jeff 'Matusow' Matson took down a rather talkative group of 11 CPL members during week 3 to claim his first win of the Fall Session.

Let's talk about getting hit with the deck....

Yep, Matson won week 3 but he not only won....he crushed everyone....and without breaking a sweat....why?  Because he was Hit by not only one....but what appeared to be 5 Decks!  We're talking AA, AK, KK, QQ, JJ, TT, it never stopped...and never did Matson's all in moves.  By the time Phil went heads up against him.....Jeff had a 7-1 chip lead.

Congrats to Matusow Matson for his first win of the Fall Session!

CPL Science Segment: What Makes Up A Great Poker Player?

As discussed on this week's podcast, below are the 10 attributes of a great poker player.
We've also listed the CPL Director's opinion on how important each attribute is to make up the 100% great poker player. While it took a little time for the Directors to come to agreement it was pretty clear they felt aggression and math aptitude led the way. The categories are pretty self-explanatory but, so we're all on the same page, here are the definitions:

Adaptablitiy - the ability to change up your game and/or comprehend what your opponent is doing and accordingly respond

Aggression - the "balls" to put out a bet and control the action

Attentiveness/Focus - paying attention (for long periods of time) to what's going on

Courage - the "balls" to call (when needed) or make the naked bluff (when needed)

Game Knowledge - remember this is for No Limit Hold em

Instinct/Intuition - making reads, feeling it, knowing it

Luck - that cosmic/karmic quality that some people just seem to have (or lack)

Math Aptitude - in general, "smarts", but here mostly for math

Patience - ability to wait for a hand or your time to make a move

Temperament - the no tilt factor

Post your comments on what attributes you feel should have a bigger percentage than what we have listed!

AttributePercentage
Adaptability6.0
Aggression19.0
Attentiveness/Focus8.0
Courage7.0
Game Knowledge14.0
Instinct/Intuition13.0

Running Aces OH8 tourney day switched

Okay, it's certainly part of the growing pains and getting into a rhythm thing that is occurring over at Running Aces. This time it's the Monthly OH8 (Omaha High Low Split) tourney that started in August. As reported here then this tourney was to be held on the third Sunday of each month.

That lasted the first month. Now, it appears that the OH8 tourney will be the FIRST Sunday of each month. Meaning that it will be offered this Sunday, Sept. 7. Some other tweaks look to be an added 10 minutes per blind level (to 30 minutes each) - at least that's what the web has, but as we've noted previously this is one other area that still has kinks to be worked out. However, if true, it will be a good tweak offering players more play for their entry fee.
