Comeback Kid Wins Week 10! Secures CPL Point Record!!

Some would call it fate....some would call it luck...some would call it amazing...but there is really only one way to describe the feat that Bill "Comeback Kid" Lanoux has accomplished....

Record Breaking!!

And break the record he has....in a fabulous match where he took control of the game late and rolled over "Newlife" in heads up play...."Comback Kid" not only secured the top spot and top seed in the 2009 Spring Session of the CPL, he scored his third win of the session....and most notably....secured the record for the most points attained during a single CPL session!  Bill who still has 7.1 points in the 'lowest 3 scores' bank....will end up with at least at 133.70 points for the session when all is said and done....which breaks the long standing point record held by "Karaoke" Phil of 128.8 set during the Summer Session of 2007.  Little known fact..."Comeback Kid" accumulated 115.0 points during the same Summer Session in 2007 to take second place...however Bill would fall victim to the CPL 2nd Seed Curse and failed to win a ticket in the TOC despite his high seeding.

Congrats Bill on a significant victory during Week 10 and for breaking the Single Session Points Record!!

In other news....7 seats at the TOC are now secured with 4 remaining as we go into the final week of the CPL on Wednesday.  "The Chaser" is pretty much a shoe in mathmatically....and Phil has to have a win during Week 11 along with help from 2 others to have a chance....this leaves 3 seats to the TOC up for grabs between 4 members who only have 4.9 points separating them!!  It will be a very interesting final week of the CPL!

BREAKING NEWS - Erik Seidel 'bout broke, working the grill up soon

Karaoke Phil sat down at the $8/$16 Stud8 tables tonight and saw the following exchange* take place before he took a seat:

KidCardfish inquired of Erik Seidel: "r you playing this limit to get practice in"

To which poker pro Seidel responded: "well this is it, if i don't win tonight I'm off to work at KFC"

Likely, Erik was kidding, but......

** Update 3/31 - Here's the screen shot:As an aside: Karaoke played about 20 hands at the table with Eirk (after 7 or 8 hands Karina Jett also joined the table) and Seidel was up a little more than $100 during that time.

Site Stats - Jan 16 to Feb 15

Took a while to put these up but here's the monthly look at our site stats - (hey we're numbers guys).

Visits climbing nicely from last month - up to 382 from 321. Here's that nifty map overlay showing the locations of our readers:You'll see that in addition to visits being "up" our city count increased by 4 to 59. However, they've come from 2 fewer countries (16 - down from last month's 18).

Our readership continues to be heavily Midwest based - Minneapolis, St. Paul, Hennepin County and Circle Pines (all in Minnesota) continue their first to fourth place dominance. As seems to happen each month the change comes in the fifth place origin of visits. We're back in Minnesota this month, but in a new city - St. Michael. And, what about the Big Apple?? The one we said last month would show up in the top five? They couldn't hold and came in at 6th place.

CPL Members Taking it to the Online Poker Community

Several solid finishes have propelled the CPL Directors and the CPL's most prolific online player up in the online poker rankings.

Karaoke Phil who ended 2008 in the 97th percentile range struggled in the new year and saw his Official Poker Rankings (OPR) drop to the low 80% mark. A couple of solid HORSE final tables in the last week (3 of 160 and 3 of 169) have him back to nipping at 90% (89.27% to be exact).

Our other CPL Director - Mark "Verbal" Cardenas, put in a very solid 88th place finish out of 1058 a couple days back in a holdem tourney. That along with his win from last month has propelled his OPR to 93.16%.

Next up is our (currently) hottest, and certainly the most prolific, online player in the CPL: Blind Me Down Behr. BMD consistently places well in tournaments but the real deep finishes were a little harder to come by. As a result his OPR tended to suffer (deep finishes in deep fields are richly rewarded - as are final tables). That all changed this week. First, BMD double cashed in the FullTilt Daily Double with finishes of 71 of 1035 and 120 of 1098. He followed that up the next day with another shot at the Daily Double - going about mid-field in one but final tabling the other (5 of 1135). All that deep play skyrocketed BMD to 94.67%.

As an aside - we took a look at WSPL director's - Gene "Ninja" Milne - stats. And, they were not too shabby. The showing from the hinterlands shows him (get this) - exactly tied with Karaoke at 89.27%.

Good results all around - keep it up boys.

Verbal Takes Down CPL Week 9!

Yes, even the CPL Directors get to win every now and then...and CPL Wine Night was Mark "Verbal" Cardenas' week. Verbal bested the field of 13 and overpowered Bill "Comeback Kid" Lanoux in heads up play to take his first win in the CPL since July 9th 2008!

This weeks win also guaranteed Verbal's seat in the coveted TOC in April. Greg "NewLife" Durand also clinched a seat in the upcoming TOC this week.

Congrats also goes out to Malinda "Nemesis" Cardenas for almost making it a Cardenas Sweep week, however as Comeback Kid would not go down when he was short stacked...Nemesis took the 3rd place spot.

The CPL point leaders returned with a vengence this week as Comeback Kid, NewLife, and Blind Me Down all made this points again this week. Side Note...Comeback Kid has a serious shot at breaking the all time CPL Point record this session, which is 128.8 held by "Karaoke" Phil.

CPL Honorable Mention goes to "Matusow" Matson for going out on the point bubble as he ran into one big hand after antoher to go out in 7th place.

CPL Honorable Mention also goes to Bud "Monster" Abbott for spending more time getting to Blaine than he did playing in Blaine!! A rough night indeed when your straight is no good, and your ace high flush gets you no chips...

Wine night was a blast like always! Thanks to everyone for making it a super night!

CPL Quote of the Week:
"I am SO turned on right now" --Blind Me Down responding to Karaoke describing a Calvin Klein ad he recently saw in Rolling Stone.
