The CPL 2008 Summer Session comes to a close with 3 CPL Members playing in a medium buy in tournament at Running Aces in Columbus MN. With a 5000 starting chip stacks and 30 min blind levels there definitely was plenty of poker to be played tonight. But in the end...non on the CPL folks made it to the money.
After level 3, NewLife was ahead of Blind Me Down and Verbal with over 8000 in chips, Verbal was sitting at 6800, and Blind Me Down was damaged with around 3100.
However, NewLife was the first CPL member knocked out during level 4 as Greg ran into pocket aces, not once but twice in a row...and against the same opponent!! Somebody check the automatic card shuffler...
Blind Me Down went out during level 5, and Verbal hung in until the end of Level 6 where my pocket 8's did not hold up against A-Q even though I survived the flop...and was a 74% favorite.
Oh well! It was a great time and I look forward to the next outing at Running Aces!

Things didn't end all bad. By the end of the night I cashed out of my 2-10 spread game $180 up from where I started. A very nice game to get into if you can. This is the second time that I have played this format at Running Aces and found the Tuesday night crowd to be much better then the Saturday night bunch. The players at my table were older and seemed to play much better poker. The Saturday night table was very loose and aggressive and mostly made up of 18-24 year olds. I decided to call it quits as the final table was getting started from the tournament that we were in and it looked like playing at the sunken table would have been fun. There were some rail birds watching including Greg and I for a while and the play at the table seemed pretty tight and nice. Next time maybe we can get some CPL members in it. Anyway, I had fun as did Greg and Mark and I hope we can do it again.
-Blind Me Down
The people want to know how many players there were in the tourney.
The tournament started with 86 players. Four players did a re-buy. Re-buys and late arrivals are allowed up to the end of the second level. Not sure I like that. We had one donkey at Mark and mine starting table that had that in mind from the start. His objective was to play very aggressive and accumulate chips or go out early and rebuy. He went out early, re-bought and ended up donating that to the cause. Gotta love those guys.
The pay out ranged from $3700 for first down to $270 for 10th.
That was a larger group than they have been averaging for the Tuesday nite tourneys. They typically have 60 odd players according to a dealer I talked to.
